Its impossible not stay indiferent with the voice of brasilian bass,
Jose Gallisa was born in Ouro Preto and began his music studies at the violoncello.
Later he went to attend the University of Minas Gerais and discovered the singing.
As a recipient of a bursary from the Brasilian Government in the Bolsa Virtuose de Cultura programme, he went to England to continue his studies, joining the Postgraduate Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Glenville Hargreaves.
While in Brasil Jose Gallisa appeared in many concerts as a soloist in peaces like
Mozarts Requiem, Handels Messiah, Beethovens Mass in C and 9th Symphonie.
Afther winning a singing competition sponsored by the Brasilian Ministry of Education, he
Made his debut at the Sao Paulo Opera theatre as Talpa in IL TABARRO and Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI, going to sing Ramfis and Il Re in AIDA, Nourabad LES PECHEURS DE PERLES, Il Commendatore DON GIOVANNI, Reinmar TANNHÄUSER;Samuele UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Ludovico and Montano OTELLO, Pistol FASLTAFF and Il Dottore LA TRAVIATTA for the same theatre.
He also sang four operas by the brasilian composer Carlos Gomes in commemoration in his
Death and was awarded the Gomes Singing Prize.
Also in Brasil he sang with many eminent European conductors and stage directors as:
Eugene Kohn, Siegfried Cöller, Klaus Peter Flö, Aidan Lang, Hugo de Ana.
He appered in the 22nd and 23th London Handel Festival in LOTARIO an RADAMISTO conducted by the English conductor Dannys Darlow and also in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Bartolo, conducted by Sir Colin Davis and staged by John Copley at the Royal Academy of Music. Most recently he sang Il Commendatore DonGiovanni for Sao Paulo Opera House and appeared at the Dubay Opera Festival in Gian Carlo Menottis AMAHL AND THE NIGTH VISITORS, Balthazar and Zuniga CARMEN for London City Operas tour of America.
This season he has performed Sparafucile RIGOLETTO, Almazor ODALEA (Gomes) and Don Antonio IL GUARANY (Gomes), Comte des Grieux MANON and Fafner SIEGFRIED for the Amazonas Opera Festival.
In 2004 Gallisa opened the Rio de Janeiro opera season singing Sarastro MAGIC FLUTE and also did his debut at the San Diego Opera in LES PECHEURS DE PERLES, after Herrufer LOHENGRIN at Sao Paulo, In 2005 Friar Laurent ROMEU AND JULIET and Gajolo FOSCA (Gomes). In 2007 he sang the Old Hebrew SANSON AND DALILA for San Diego Opera, Alidoro CENERENTOLA for Amazonas Opera Festival, and Bartolo LE NOZZE DI FIGARO for Rio de Janeiro Opera House.
Future engagements include Il Re AIDA for San Diego Opera, Sparafucile for Sao Paulo Opera House.
