Brazilian bass José Gallisa was born in Ouro Preto and first studied violoncello before switching to singing at the University of Minas Gerais.
With a scholarship from the Brazilian government, he studied two years in London at the Royal Academy of Music and others. with Glenville Hargreaves. After returning home, he won 1st prize in the singing competition of the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
Shortly thereafter, he made his debut at the Sao Paulo Opera in the role of Talpa in IL TABARRO and as Simone in GIANNI SCHICCHI. José Gallisa developed his first opera repertoire at the State Opera in Sao Paolo. Various roles in his subject followed: Ramfis and Il Re in AIDA, Nourabad in LES PECHEURS DE PERLES, Il Commendatore in DON GIOVANNI, Reinmar in TANNHÄUSER, Samuele in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, as well as Montano / Ludovico in OTHELLO, Pistol in FALSTAFF and Il Dottore in LA TRAVIATA.
José Gallisa was entrusted with the participation of three of his operas in honor of the Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes - IL GUARANY (Don Antonio), LO SCHIAVO (Goitacá) and FOSCA (Gajolo) and was subsequently awarded the Gomes Prize for singing.
On international stages, José Gallisa sang LOTARIO and RADAMISTO at the 30th London Retail Festival under Dannys Darlow and later Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO under Sir Colin Davies in London. He sang at the Dubai Opera Festival in AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS and toured the USA with the London City Opera as Zuniga in CARMEN. At the Amazonas Festival, he designed Roles like Sparafucile in RIGOLETTO, Il Comte des Grieux in MANON and Fafner in SIEGFRIED.
From 2004 to 2007, José Gallisa sang alternately in Rio de Janeiro, San Diego and Sao Paulo: 2004 the Sarastro in the opening production of the opera in Rio de Janeiro, then in the San Diego Opera Il Re in AIDA, the Old Hebrew in SAMSON ET DALILAH, Nourabad in LES PURCHEURS DE PERLES (2004 and 2007), the Heerrufer in LOHENGRIN; and Alidoro from LA CENERENTOLA, Don Antonio in IL GUARANY (Gomes), Colline in LA BOHÈME at the Amazonas Festival and Sparfucile in Sao Paulo.
In 2008, José Gallisa made her debut in Germany at the Bremen Theater. Important roles since then include Zacharias in NABUCCO, MAOMETTO II in the opera of the same name, Oroveso in NORMA, Sarastro in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Ramfis in AIDA, Komtur in DON GIOVANNI and the Prince Gremin in EUGENE ONEGIN.
In 2010 José Gallisa sang Timur in TURANDOT on the stage of the Bremen Theater and Baldassare in LA FAVORITA (Donizetti) and Ludovico in OTHELLO (Verdi) in Gießener Theater.
In 2011 he sang the Raimondo in LUCIA DI LAMMEMOUR in two productions: Rio de Janeiro Opera Theater and Mendozas Independencia Theater (Argentina).
In the same year he sang at the Mainz Theater Collatinus in THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA (Britten) and Tom in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA (Verdi), 2012 Don Alfonso in COSI FAN TUTTE, Gremin in EUGENE ONEGIN (Tchaikovsky), Banquo in MACBETH (Verdi), 2013 Mefistofele in Boitos MEFISTOFELE.
He has been at the Osnabrück Theater since 2014 and sang Don Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Wesener in Gurlitt's SOLDIER, Fiesco in Verdi's SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Heinrich in LOHENGRIN, Sarastro in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Rocco in FIDELIO, Alidoro in LA CENERENTOLA and for the next Season, Pogner in DIE MEISTERSINGER.
