Der brasilianische Bass José Gallisa wurde in Ouro Preto geboren und studierte zuerst Violoncello, bevor er an der Universität von Minas Gerais zum Gesang wechselte. Mit einem Stipendium der brasilianischen Regierung studierte er zwei Jahre in London an der Royal Academy of Music u.a. mit Glenville Hargreaves. Nach seiner Rückkehr in seine Heimat gewann er den 1. Preis bei dem Gesangswettbewerb des brasilianischen Bildungsministeriums.

Kurz danach debütierte er an der Oper von São Paulo als Talpa in IL TABARRO und als Simone in GIANNI SCHICCHI. Es folgten diverse Rollen in seinem Fach: u.a. Ramfis und Il Re in AIDA, Nourabad in LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES, Il Commendatore in DON GIOVANNI, Reinmar in TANNHÄUSER, Samuele in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Montano/Ludovico in OTHELLO, Pistol in FALSTAFF und Il Dottore in LA TRAVIATA.

Zu Ehren des brasilianischen Komponisten Carlos Gomes wurde er mit der Teilnahme in drei seiner Opern betraut — IL GUARANY (Don Antonio), LO SCHIAVO (Goitacá) und FOSCA (Gajolo) — und mit dem Gomes-Preis für Gesang ausgezeichnet.

Auf internationalen Bühnen sang José Gallisa LOTARIO und RADAMISTO beim 30. Londoner Händelfestival unter Dannys Darlow und später Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO unter Sir Colin Davis in London. Er sang auf dem Dubai Opera Festival in AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS und ging mit der London City Opera auf USA-Tournee als Zuniga in CARMEN. Auf dem Amazonas Festival gestaltete er u.a. Sparafucile in RIGOLETTO, Le Comte des Grieux in MANON und Fafner in SIEGFRIED.

2004 bis 2007 sang er abwechselnd in Rio de Janeiro, San Diego und São Paulo: u.a. Sarastro in der Eröffnungsinszenierung der Oper in Rio de Janeiro, Il Re in AIDA und den Alten Hebräer in SAMSON ET DALILA an der San Diego Opera, sowie Alidoro in LA CENERENTOLA, Don Antonio in IL GUARANY und Colline in LA BOHÈME auf dem Amazonas Festival.

2008 debütierte José Gallisa in Deutschland am Theater Bremen. Wichtige Rollen seitdem sind u.a. Zacharias in NABUCCO, Maometto II, Oroveso in NORMA, Sarastro in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Ramfis in AIDA, Komtur in DON GIOVANNI und Fürst Gremin in EUGEN ONEGIN. Am Mainzer Theater sang er u.a. Collatinus in THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA, Don Alfonso in COSÌ FAN TUTTE, Banquo in MACBETH und Mefistofele in Boitos MEFISTOFELE.

Seit 2014 ist er am Theater Osnabrück engagiert, wo er u.a. Don Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO und Wesener in Gurlitts SOLDATEN gesungen hat. Weitere Rollen sind Fiesco in SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Heinrich in LOHENGRIN, Rocco in FIDELIO und Pogner in DIE MEISTERSINGER.

Brazilian bass José Gallisa was born in Ouro Preto and first studied cello before switching to voice at the University of Minas Gerais. With a scholarship from the Brazilian government he studied for two years at the Royal Academy of Music in London, with Glenville Hargreaves among others. Upon returning home he won first prize in the singing competition of the Brazilian Ministry of Education.

In honour of the Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes he was entrusted with roles in three of his operas — IL GUARANY (Don Antonio), LO SCHIAVO (Goitacá) and FOSCA (Gajolo) — and was awarded the Gomes Prize for singing.

On international stages he sang LOTARIO and RADAMISTO at the 30th London Handel Festival under Denys Darlow, and later Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO under Sir Colin Davis in London. Since 2014 he has been engaged at Theater Osnabrück, where he has sung Don Bartolo in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Wesener in Gurlitt's SOLDATEN, among others. Further roles include Fiesco in SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Heinrich in LOHENGRIN, Rocco in FIDELIO and Pogner in DIE MEISTERSINGER.

O baixo brasileiro José Gallisa nasceu em Ouro Preto e estudou primeiro violoncelo, antes de mudar para o canto na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Em homenagem ao compositor brasileiro Carlos Gomes, participou de três de suas óperas — IL GUARANY (Don Antonio), LO SCHIAVO (Goitacá) e FOSCA (Gajolo) — e recebeu o Prêmio Carlos Gomes de canto.

Em palcos internacionais, cantou LOTARIO e RADAMISTO no 30º Festival Händel de Londres sob Denys Darlow e, mais tarde, Bartolo em LE NOZZE DI FIGARO sob Sir Colin Davis, em Londres. Apresentou-se no Dubai Opera Festival em AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS e fez turnê pelos EUA com a London City Opera como Zuniga em CARMEN. Em 2008 estreou na Alemanha, no Theater Bremen. Papéis importantes desde então incluem Zacharias em NABUCCO, Maometto II, Oroveso em NORMA, Sarastro em DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Ramfis em AIDA, o Comendador em DON GIOVANNI e o Príncipe Gremin em EUGENE ONEGIN. No Teatro de Mainz cantou Collatinus em THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA, Don Alfonso em COSÌ FAN TUTTE, Banquo em MACBETH e Mefistofele no MEFISTOFELE de Boito.
